The Title Sequence
Here is a story board for a possible title sequence for a defunct Sam & Max game. This was only to try to explore Sam & Max's acting and how the background elements might play against them.
The idea was that there would be colored flats moving in the background depicting various threatening villains. The little rappelling figures are like anonymous silhouetted henchmen for Sam & Max to pick off. The little shaggy rectangle in the last frame indicates a title just in case there was some possible way you didn't already figure that out.
There are some color concepts that go with this which I'll go hunt for at some point which convey a widescreen version of the idea. 8 1/2X11 each page Ballpoint and Marker

Speaking of Sam & Max, there was this web comic where the girl had Max on her shirt and even pointed out that he is a lagomorph.

I would love to see this in the next season oif Sam and Max!
ReplyDeleteVery cool! Out of curiosity, was this for Plunge Through Space, Freelance Police, or some other unfinished game?
ReplyDeleteI'd like to see Telltale use this in Season 4. Well, I'd just like to see Season 4 at all. They announced a bunch of new stuff recently, and while it's all cool, I'm a bit disappointed we haven't heard anything new about everyone's favorite dog and lagomorph.
Colin Matthew--
ReplyDeleteWow, that's funny that they draw so much attention to the Max shirt (which is obviously a bootleg by the way)
RAnthonyMahan-- I'm pretty sure it was for Freelance Police. I would have done a "spacier" one for Plunge.
Aw, now I want to see this one animated.
ReplyDeleteSteve, I'm one of the many people who was disappointed that there was nothing even related to Sam and Max in any of the five games that Telltale announced this year.
ReplyDeleteSo, I ask you, pretty pretty please, to try to get Freelance Police back from LucasArts as quickly as possible to try to make everything better. I know a lot of people here have given up on this game, but I will not. I really, really, REALLY want this. In fact, if you make some kind of deal to get that game back, it'll probably be finished before Season 4 even begins. And it'll probably draw a lot more people into the Sam and Max franchise than ever before, because they'd probably be saying, "Really? They're bringing back THAT Sam and Max game? Now I *have* to play it!"
Pwetty pwetty pweeeeease with sugar on top and a cherry and whipped cream and sprinkles and more sprinkles and hot fudge and another cherry just for the heck of it?
Loved this title theme..It's a pity we never saw it brought to life.. Do you know if they were re-working the original Sam & Max credit sequence theme music for Freelance Police? The original stands as one of my fav pieces of video game music.
ReplyDeleteDidn't they use it for the first season in the telltale games? It was the same I think
ReplyDeleteHieroHiero-- I'm sure the Freelance Police theme would have been re-worked. We never got that far, unfortunately.
ReplyDeletemaritzac-- I love all of Telltale's Sam & Max title sequences. I don't think they referenced this one specifically.
Looks nice.
ReplyDeleteI always though one funny thing about max was him claiming to be a lagomorph.. Wonder if anyone has tried to check ^_^;
Sorry, it seems like I completely misunderstood the question or failed to explain myself properly :D I just meant that this

sounded a little bit like this

It's not exactly the same piece but rather a nod to the music in the first game. I think.
it looks as if though some of this may have influenced the opening sequence of Sam and Max Season 2
ReplyDeleteahah seems funny! I can pretty imagine that :D
ReplyDeleteDamn if I wasn't so lazy I'd animate that my self just to see it in movement, but as previously mentioned I am lazy. It's very cool sequence :D
ReplyDeletePhilip - I wish I had seen this when doing the Season Two title sequence! I showed Steve my horrible chickenscratch mockup when it was in progress ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U-LINJmEAdc ) he told me at the time it reminded him of this Freelance Police thing, and I've been hoping to see it ever since. Now I have!
ReplyDeleteGreat minds think alike, it seems!
ReplyDeleteI think it's awsome, maybe in a future video game openig would be better!! Tell it to TellTale games!
ReplyDeleteWouldn't mind seing it done in Flash.
