When I'm asked if I'll ever any more comics, this story comes up. I started it a long time ago for an anthology then put it in a drawer when some other opportunities turned up. I tell myself I'll have to finish it off at some point so I can finally strike it from the vast ledger book of half-made projects.
Pen and Ink 10 X15
Addendum:
I should mention that the lettering on these pages was done by Official Sam & Max letterer Lois Buhalis. I was just glancing at these pages and appreciating the artistry of her hand lettering. Though I have used the canned stuff it's just not the same.
Awesome Comic. I'm not applying pressure or whatever, but are you still thinking of finishing it?
ReplyDeleteCan I translate this one?
ReplyDeleteBy the way, I did a translation work of the Big Sleep comic, I want to ask if it's ok. Here's the URL: -> http://subcultura.es/webcomic/samymax/2
That bullet had MAX's name on it! D:
ReplyDeleteI would really love to see this finished. But of course if pigs could fly then it would rain bacon, and all that stuff.
No seriously, I'll just sit here in the corner. Without comics. With my bit, wet, trembling puppy eyes.
OH MY GOODNESS!! The legendary story where Max is shot and replaced by a monkey!?
ReplyDeleteAn unconventional way to get your ear pierced but effective all the same.
ReplyDeleteWould of loved to see the full thing but this snipet was very cool, always nice to read something new from the world of Sam and Max.
Oh man, I was not expecting them to run out of a high storey window, that's was flippin' hilarious! And growling Sam is fierce! It's so great to see more comics.
ReplyDeleteSweet! I have the sketchbook with the first frame in it and now I get to see the whole comic!
ReplyDeleteSteve, you gotta finish this. Don't abandon them yet. Do a few more comics, publish a new book, get a movie going. Only you can do these characters true justice.
ReplyDeleteThis is the story you were talking about in the first pages of surfing the highway! I always thought it was a joke!
ReplyDeleteDon't let sam & max comics die steve, hope we'll see more of it in the future
This was the one where Sam was going to team up with the Gibbon who's more violent than Max?
ReplyDeleteI wanna see more... or more Toybox. Either or.
I seriously love your Harvey Kurtzman-esque details, like the bullet with Max's name on it. It's a shame there aren't more of these amazing comics, but it obviously makes sense when you've got as much going on as you do!
ReplyDeleteYeah, as a huge fan of the comics, I've got to cry for this one to be finished. Read the comics right after I beat hit the road, always saw the single panel of the monkey with a gun, and the newspaper about max...i want it.
ReplyDeleteEven from France, we all want more Sam & Max comics... J'espère que tu trouveras le temps d'en faire d'autres un jour..
ReplyDeleteSo the bullet with Max's name on it is finally revealed! We now know that it wasn't a disgruntled LucasArts employee who put "Max" on the bullet that flies past our eyes in the original game, but possibly Purcell himself!
ReplyDeleteThis was fun; I'd love to see more!
ReplyDeleteAlthough my nitpicky side is saying that in the first panel "Max" should have been "Sam". Unless Sam's grandma hung out with Max a lot...
Uh? The balloon pointers are correct.
ReplyDeleteThe cliffhanger, man. It's EVIL D:
I love that hint of gum visible when Sam out-and-out snarls at them.
ReplyDeleteplease finish this!
ReplyDeleteI'd pay you $50 in advance to make a whole new graphic novel XD
ReplyDeleteIt's cool to see stuff from the archives :D And poor Max... I hope he makes it out of this okay!
ReplyDeleteAnd for some reason (love for the characters, momentary insanity, the monotonous thrill of working with fiddly ragdoll models in Garry's Mod, etc.), I got the urge one day to try and recreate--as a tribute of sorts--the pages you posted of this lost comic in the 3D model posing sandbox/game Garry's Mod.
Despite a few discrepancies, I think the three pages turned out pretty well--and hopefully serve as an at least somewhat faithful adaptation of your original work. Please take a look; I hope you enjoy it :D

i swear to the good lord above or whatever infinitely powerful deity exists, i will gouge my own eyes out with a rusty spork if Sam & Max don't return. they're the kinds of characters you can't find anywhere else, just like that piece of moldy, rock-hard cheese in the back of a cupboard that has probably absorbed a few innocent bystanders. you can't help but be mesmerized by it's complete and utter awe-inspiring violent grossness. i need that back or i'll consider selling my soul to the devil instead.
ReplyDeleteMas por favor!! , llegue hasta aqui cuando lei su comic de Sam y Max en el principio hablaba de un Max muerto y vine aqui! Jaja
