Stuffy Max

Here's a great little soft sculpture of Max by artist Anna Chambers. I asked her to interpret Max in the style of her own work. I think this would be a neat doll to manufacture though I'm still interested in doing a more stock version of Max as well. For a very long time I've owed her a painting in exchange for this piece and I'm hoping that by posting her creation here I can jar myself into action and that she'll forgive me for making her wait.

  1. I'd love for this and one of Sam to be made, I'd gladly buy a set for my desk and probably one for my kids too. (They like playing S&M even if they don't get it)

  7. Nice response. Do folks appreciate this artistic interpretation of Max or does anyone think they'd prefer a more conventional version of the hateful little lagomorph?

  10. Steve-- I suppose I'd prefer a more conventional version in the long run (not that I don't love Anna's version).

  11. Ah I loves this lil' plush guy! I like this styled version, if I had an option I'd most likely end up buying both. I'd love to see how she would manage with a Sam version.

  12. Man, that one is so darned cute. It's much better than mine. The one you've got looks like you bought it in a toy store. I would buy a copy of that in a heartbeat, but I know that something like that takes time and effort to make, and isn't anywhere close to being mass produced.

I think the only redeeming quality of the one I made is that I made him to-scale.

(Side note-The only reason Max puts up with the hugging is because I look like the Geek. At least I think. He may just be waiting for me to leave to steal my kendo equipment)

He's supposed to be the cartoon version- hence the lack of grin and unusually shaped head- his head is flat so the flight attendant's cap doesn't fall off.

I'm planning to make one for my daughter for Xmas, she asked for one.

  14. S'nice s'nice. I'd like the eyes to be more ellipsoid though. I think ellipsoid is the right word. More like a squashed circle. or more like, a, a, seed or something. THEN it'd rock.

  15. In answer to your question - a more conventional one for me please. I may even EVEN be tempted to ship it to Africa if that's an option. This one's got some creds but I reckon the head needs more volume like an egg, needs ellipsoid eyes and a nose and a more MAX-y mouth. In any event, props to Anna ;)

  16. While Anna's version is a little non-conventional, as has been mentioned, it's still freakishly cute! I wouldn't mind if this doll got manufactured.
I'd love to have a cuddly Max plush sitting on my desk! :)

  17. This is great!

But I think I'd have to prefer a more conventional one too.

  18. I'd buy this -- heck, I'd buy two of them so I can put one in the back window of my car to frighten small children.

But a Max plush would be lonely without a Sam plush buddy to go with him.

I'll add that I like Anna's stylized version of him, but I would also prefer a more "conventional" one.

Steve, isn't it a bit ironic for you to refer to anything about Max as being "conventional"?

  19. I've always thought a Sam doll would be a huge success. So cute, so adorable... Of course, he would be incomplete without his prophet voiced sidekick.

  20. Awesome, I'd totally buy it.

  21. I want this version at a higher rate (its very nice quality)

maybe do a limited run of the one you see here, and a stock starter to see which people like in the end.

quality will win over stock and simple any day. But I suppose its about overhead and movement.

id gladly take 10 of these dolls. and looking at it if pay 40-60$ if all is hand made like it says. (if its huge more)
